The Vampire Diaries pilot follows Elena Gilbert as she falls for a mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore. As their romance heats up, Elena's previously quiet small town of Mystic Falls is plagued by supernatural occurrences, with Stefan and his brother Damon revealing the truth about their vampiric nature. As a love triangle develops between them, the brothers battle over their affection for Elena and control of the town itself.
The Vampire Diaries pilot episode follows Elena Gilbert, a seventeen-year-old high school student from Mystic Falls. After her parents die in a car crash, she finds comfort in her friends Bonnie, Matt and Caroline. When a mysterious new student named Stefan Salvatore arrives to town, he immediately catches Elena’s attention. What Elena doesn’t know is that Stefan is actually a vampire and his brother Damon is also in town. As their friendship deepens, Stefan and Elena find themselves getting closer and even fall in love.
Meanwhile, Stefan’s vampire brother Damon is trying to turn the townsfolk of Mystic Falls against them by using his bloodthirsty powers. When it becomes clear that Damon is dangerous and has sinister motives, Elena and Stefan must find a way to protect the people they care about while protecting themselves from him as well. The stakes are further raised when Katherine, an old enemy of the brothers’ who turned them into vampires centuries ago, returns to cause chaos in Mystic Falls.
As the episode ends with Katherine taking off for parts unknown, Elena and Stefan must band together to battle their nemesis before she causes too much destruction in Mystic Falls. With stakes higher than ever before, the vampire drama kicks off with this action-packed pilot episode setting up what is sure to be an unforgettable series filled with romance and intrigue.
