(SPOILER) INTERVIEW: Nina Dobrev (Elena) from The Vampire Diaries

THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS, DO NOT READ ANY FARTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED!!!

The Vampire Diaries is back tonight for the second episode of the season, and it is fantastic. Damon’s super sad about losing his bff Alaric, and Elena has some trouble with her transition. We also meet Pastor Young’s daughter, played by Grace Phipps (from Nine Lives of Chloe King) and Connor, the vampire hunter continues to wreak havoc on Mystic Falls. I recently had the chance to catch up with Nina Dobrev at Comic Con, who talked about the excitement and challenges of playing a new vampire and what kind of vampire she sees Elena becoming.

So are you excited about the challenge of playing another vampire?
Yes. Definitely excited about it because when you’re doing a show for this long you need change. And I have the best of all the scenarios, I got to play two characters, but Elena, as much as she was evolving, she needed to evolve into this next step despite the fact that she didn’t want to at all.

What are you looking forward to this season for your character?
To go on the journey with her and sort of see how she deals with things, and it’s sad though. She never wanted this at all and now she has no choice. Not just for today, but forever. And she’s stuck with this lifestyle, but who knows. Everything happens for a reason, and maybe one day she’ll be really thankful and really happy that she gets to live through different eras and different times. Maybe she will leave all these boys behind and try to find a cure for cancer or make some good of it.
