Forget Team Edward and Team Jacob. They suck – both literally and figuratively – when compared to The Vampire Diaries’ Damon and Stefan Salvatore.
As played by Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, the Salvatore brothers make vampires look good . . . and by that, we mean bad. Sinfully, delightfully bad. With Season 3 premiering Sept. 15, the series has put a stake through any initial comparisons to the Twilight film series. Yes, it does star a young, beautiful woman torn between two hunky immortals. But the body count is higher; the sex is hotter and heavier (and no one is waiting until their “vampire wedding day”); the pace of storytelling is breathless with its clever twists and turns; and the actors inhabit characters far more complex and challenging.
