Nina Dobrev was born Nina Constantinova Dobreva on January 9, 1989 in Sofia, Bulgaria. She’s famous for starring in The CW’s new series “The Vampire Diaries”. She played the role of Elena Gilbert who is a human caught between two vampire brothers, as well as the role of Katherine Pierce, Elena’s doppelganger, a vampire that the same brothers loved when they were human during the American Civil War.

At the age of two, Dobrev and her family moved from Bulgaria to Toronto, Canada, where she was raised. She attended J.B. Tyrell Sr. Public School and Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in Ontario. Dobrev majored in Sociology at Ryerson University in Toronto before dropping out to pursue an acting career in 2008. She studied with the Armstrong Acting Studio.

Her enthusiasm and talent for dance, gymnastics, theatre, music, visual arts, and acting, started at a very young age. Dobrev’s modeling jobs led her to work in commercials and then to film auditions. She landed roles in feature films such as “Fugitive Pieces”, “Away From Her” with Julie Christie, and “The Poet”.

Dobrev’s television appearances include the role of teenage single mother Mia Jones on CTV’s “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, a guest appearance on “Eleventh Hour”, a lead role on MTV’s “The American Mall” and in the television movies “Never Cry Werewolf” and “Too Young To Marry”.

She enjoys playing volleyball, soccer, rock climbing, wake boarding, snowboarding, horseback riding, swimming, and traveling. Dobrev has traveled to Europe often for pleasure and for competing internationally as a representative for Canada in Aesthetic gymnastics.

Dobrev currently resides in both Atlanta Georgia where “The Vampire Diaries” is filmed, and Los Angeles, Calfornia.
