Nina Dobrev on 'cool experience' of being first write-in People's Choice Award winner [Video]

How do you win a major entertainment award without even being on the ballot? Just ask Nina Dobrev, star of the CW hit show “The Vampire Diaries,” because that is exactly what happened to her in January at the People’s Choice Awards. Because of her loyal and active fan base, she became the first person not nominated to win.

In a video chat with senior editors Rob Licuria and Chris Beachum, she revealed that winning Favorite TV Drama Actress was “a really, really unique, cool experience. I’ve seen through my Twitter and now through the People’s Choice Awards how passionate and committed they really are. My fans were so ruthless and so passionate and enthusiastic about having me nominated that they wrote in so many times. That’s the best kind of recognition you can possibly get.”

The Vampire Diaries: Why Guys Should Watch

It can be tough to be a fan of The Vampire Diaries at IGN. It’s title alone makes many a guy recoil in horror and mock disgust, fearful of anything that sounds at all like Twilight. And yes, it’s true, Vampire Diaries, like Twilight, has a love triangle involving a human girl and two supernatural creatures. But it also has a lot of fun elements that make it more appealing than one might think, and certainly more interesting than Twilight – including more than its fair share of decapitations and hearts being ripped out of chests, along with a ton of surprising and exciting twists and turns. It’s arguably the fastest-paced serialized drama on TV right now.

I recently had the chance to speak to Vampire Diaries cast members Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev, Candice Accola, Kat Graham and Matt Davis and asked them all the same question: For those wary, why should guys watch The Vampire Diaries? Here’s what they told me, some via humor, others via a more straight-forward approach.
